Terms of Agreement
Rules for booking, entering, and using Focus Lounge private study pods safely, respectfully, and on time.
Last updated: June 29, 2026. These terms are intended for Focus Lounge bookings and facility use. They should be reviewed by a Connecticut attorney before launch, especially if you add automatic overstay fees, security deposits, memberships, or paid subscriptions.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Booking Terms and Customer Agreement (“Agreement”) apply to all reservations, visits, and use of Focus Lounge study pods, meeting pods, common areas, doors, access systems, internet service, furnishings, equipment, and related facilities (“Facilities”). By creating a reservation, entering the Facilities, using an access credential, or using any Focus Lounge service, you agree to this Agreement.
By booking, you confirm that your booking information is accurate, that you will follow posted rules and building rules, and that you are responsible for your own conduct and for the conduct of any guest you bring.
2. Bookings and Authorized Use
- Bookings are for the selected pod, date, and time shown in your confirmation.
- You may use the pod only during your reserved time.
- Late arrival does not extend your reservation.
- You must leave the pod and remove all belongings by the end of your booking.
- Pods are intended for studying, focused work, video calls, interviews, recording, and similar lawful solo or small-workspace uses.
3. Access, Entry, and No Tailgating
Access to Focus Lounge is limited to customers with an active booking during their reserved time. Tailgating is strictly prohibited.
You agree that you will not:
- Allow another person to enter behind you unless they independently have authorized access.
- Hold the door open for another person who does not have their own valid booking or authorized access.
- Share your QR code, access code, PIN, app credential, login, booking link, or entry credential with anyone else.
- Enter before your booking starts or remain after your booking ends unless expressly authorized.
- Bypass, tamper with, disable, obstruct, or misuse any door, lock, camera, access-control device, alarm, internet equipment, or security system.
Unauthorized entry, attempted unauthorized entry, or assisting unauthorized entry may be treated as trespassing and may result in removal, cancellation without refund where permitted by law, suspension of booking privileges, additional charges for disclosed fees, and/or referral to building management or law enforcement.
4. Timing, Grace Period, and Overstay
You are responsible for managing your time. You must fully exit the pod before the end of your reservation so the next customer can begin on time.
A grace period may be provided at Focus Lounge’s discretion or as stated during booking, but any grace period is not guaranteed and does not permanently extend your reservation.
If you remain past your scheduled time, Focus Lounge may charge an overstay fee, additional usage fee, administrative fee, or the cost of any impacted booking, but only where such charges are disclosed before purchase or otherwise permitted by applicable law. Repeated overstays may result in suspension or termination of booking privileges.
5. Cleanliness and Respectful Use
You agree to treat the pods, furniture, walls, floors, equipment, and common areas with care and respect. Before leaving, you must:
- Remove all personal belongings.
- Throw away trash in the proper receptacles.
- Wipe up or report spills immediately.
- Leave the pod clean and ready for the next customer.
- Return furniture, chair position, lighting, and equipment to normal condition.
- Report any damage, malfunction, spill, odor, or cleanliness issue as soon as possible.
You may be charged a disclosed cleaning fee if you leave trash, food waste, stains, spills, odors, or any mess requiring extra cleaning.
6. Damage, Loss, and Customer Responsibility
You are responsible for damage, misuse, theft, excessive wear, loss, cleaning needs, repair costs, replacement costs, chargebacks, or claims caused by you or your guest.
This includes damage to pods, doors, handles, locks, panels, walls, glass, lighting, ventilation, seating, desks, outlets, screens, accessories, internet equipment, cameras, access-control devices, signs, plants, fixtures, flooring, building property, or property belonging to another customer.
Focus Lounge may charge your payment method for reasonable repair, cleaning, replacement, administrative, or recovery costs, provided such charges are disclosed as required by applicable law.
7. Prohibited Conduct
The following are not allowed inside Focus Lounge:
- Tailgating, unauthorized entry, or sharing access credentials.
- Smoking, vaping, tobacco use, marijuana use, illegal drugs, or controlled substances.
- Alcohol use, intoxication, or disruptive behavior.
- Weapons, firearms, explosives, fireworks, or hazardous materials, except where possession is expressly protected by applicable law.
- Harassment, threats, fighting, intimidation, stalking, discrimination, or abusive behavior.
- Excessive noise, yelling, loud music, or conduct that disturbs others.
- Sexual activity, nudity, inappropriate conduct, or use of the Facilities for unlawful purposes.
- Sleeping overnight, camping, loitering, or using the Facilities as a residence.
- Cooking, open flames, candles, incense, strong odors, or messy food.
- Tampering with cameras, locks, doors, fire alarms, sprinklers, electrical systems, ventilation, Wi-Fi equipment, or pod components.
- Blocking entrances, exits, hallways, ADA-accessible routes, fire exits, or emergency equipment.
- Recording, photographing, livestreaming, or filming other customers without permission.
- Any activity that violates law, building rules, campus rules, safety rules, posted rules, or this Agreement.
8. Noise, Calls, and Pod Etiquette
Focus Lounge is intended for quiet study, focused work, remote meetings, interviews, and similar uses. You agree to keep your voice and device volume reasonable, use headphones when appropriate, avoid disturbing other customers, avoid strong odors or messy food, and keep the pod door closed during use unless there is an emergency or safety concern.
Pods are designed to reduce sound, but Focus Lounge does not guarantee complete soundproofing, complete silence, or complete privacy.
9. Food and Drinks
Covered drinks are allowed unless otherwise posted. Food that creates odor, stains, mess, grease, crumbs, or waste is not allowed inside the pods. You are responsible for spills, stains, odors, pest issues, cleaning needs, or damage caused by food or drink.
10. Security Cameras and Monitoring
For safety, security, access control, and rule enforcement, Focus Lounge may use video surveillance and access logs in entrances, common areas, and other permitted areas. Cameras are not intended to be placed in restrooms or areas where privacy is legally required.
Surveillance may be used to investigate unauthorized entry, tailgating, overstays, damage, theft, safety incidents, disputes, chargebacks, or violations of this Agreement. Do not tamper with, block, cover, disable, unplug, move, or interfere with any security device.
11. Internet and Technology Use
Wi-Fi or internet access may be provided as a convenience. Internet access is not guaranteed and may be interrupted, limited, monitored for security, or unavailable.
You agree not to use Focus Lounge internet or technology systems for illegal activity, hacking, malware, phishing, spam, copyright infringement, unauthorized downloads, network abuse, or interference with other users or Focus Lounge systems.
12. Payments, Fees, and Additional Charges
You agree to pay all booking fees, taxes, and disclosed charges associated with your reservation.
Additional charges may apply for overstay, late exit, extra cleaning, damage, repair, replacement, unauthorized entry, lost or misused access credentials, chargebacks, payment disputes, unpaid balances, or administrative costs related to rule violations, to the extent such charges are clearly disclosed and permitted by law.
By booking, you authorize Focus Lounge and its payment processor to charge your selected payment method for your reservation and for any additional disclosed fees or charges arising from your use of the Facilities.
13. Cancellations, No-Shows, and Refunds
Cancellation, refund, rescheduling, no-show, and late-arrival policies will be shown during booking or posted by Focus Lounge. Unless otherwise stated during checkout, late arrival does not extend the reservation, no-shows may be non-refundable, same-day cancellations may be non-refundable, and credits or rescheduling may be offered at Focus Lounge’s discretion.
Focus Lounge may cancel or reschedule a booking due to maintenance, safety, technical issues, emergency conditions, building restrictions, payment failure, suspected fraud, or violation of this Agreement.
14. Personal Property
You are responsible for your own belongings. Focus Lounge is not responsible for lost, stolen, forgotten, damaged, or unattended items except where required by law. Items left behind may be held temporarily, discarded, or turned over to building management or law enforcement.
15. Safety and Emergencies
You must use the Facilities safely and responsibly. Do not block exits, interfere with emergency equipment, or create any fire, electrical, health, or safety hazard. In an emergency, call 911 first, then notify Focus Lounge as soon as reasonably possible.
Focus Lounge may close the Facilities, cancel bookings, or require customers to leave due to weather, fire alarm, emergency, power outage, building issue, safety concern, maintenance issue, government order, or other circumstances beyond its control.
16. ADA, Service Animals, and Non-Discrimination
Focus Lounge is committed to providing access consistent with applicable federal, state, and local law. Service animals are allowed where required by law. Customers with service animals are responsible for keeping the animal under control and for any damage caused by the animal, to the extent permitted by law.
Focus Lounge does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, veteran status, lawful source of income, or any other protected status under applicable law.
Customers who need reasonable assistance or accommodation should contact Focus Lounge before booking or as soon as possible.
17. Age and Minors
Customers must be at least 18 years old to book unless Focus Lounge expressly allows bookings by minors with parent or guardian consent. If a parent or guardian books on behalf of a minor, the parent or guardian accepts responsibility for the minor’s conduct, safety, payment obligations, damage, cleaning needs, and compliance with this Agreement.
18. Right to Refuse or Terminate Access
Focus Lounge may refuse, cancel, suspend, terminate, or restrict access if a customer violates this Agreement, creates a safety/security/cleanliness concern, allows unauthorized entry, damages property, fails to pay amounts owed, misuses the booking/access system, provides false information, or engages in fraud or unlawful conduct.
19. No Guarantee of Availability, Quiet, Privacy, or Results
Focus Lounge provides access to work and study pods on an as-available basis. Focus Lounge does not guarantee complete silence, complete soundproofing, complete privacy, uninterrupted internet, availability of a specific pod, or any specific academic, work, business, interview, meeting, or productivity outcome.
20. Assumption of Risk and Limitation of Liability
You understand that using a shared facility involves ordinary risks, including slips, trips, falls, property loss, equipment malfunction, interactions with others, illness exposure, and other risks. You agree to use reasonable care and follow all posted rules.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Focus Lounge and its owners, members, managers, employees, contractors, vendors, landlords, and affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or lost-profit damages arising out of or related to your booking or use of the Facilities. Nothing in this Agreement limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by law.
21. Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Focus Lounge and its owners, members, managers, employees, contractors, vendors, landlords, and affiliates from claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising out of or related to your use or misuse of the Facilities, violation of this Agreement, violation of law or building rules, damage to property, injury to another person, or the conduct of your guest or any person you allow to enter.
22. Changes to These Terms
Focus Lounge may update this Agreement from time to time. The version posted or presented at the time of booking will apply to that booking unless a change is required by law, safety, security, or building rules. Continued use of Focus Lounge after updated terms are posted means you accept the updated terms.
23. Governing Law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
